PIX3LED # 7 KID ICARUS

I was really into Greek mythology when I was younger. I still enjoy these myths and legends but when I was young I was visiting the library once or twice a week picking up anything that was in the mythology isle at the St. Louis City Library. So an interest in the Kid Icarus game shouldn’t come as any surprise - even though it is based on a mish-mash of lore. It was developed by the same team responsible for Metroid and two other titles on my top 10 list. What is interesting is that it was developed alongside Metroid and even shared programmers with the other title.

Kid Icarus mixed some [at the time] unique gameplay of climbing upward while all others were scrolling sideways along with some basic item collection that players really enjoyed. They laced in a pretty memorable title track that is still heavily remembered in the community. I’ll admit that this music is still among my favorites. The biggest testament to its staying power is that despite some really weak successors, fans are still asking for a sequel to this title.

All in all I just liked that it was based [so very loosely] on those myths that I was so fond of back in the day.
