Return of Retro

21 years after the first release in the US, a famous gaming icon has recieved a rebirth. For those not aware, CAPCOM’s infamous Mega Man series recently received a new chapter by way of a Wii Ware download. Mega Man 9 as it is cleverly named, was released last week and has so far received critical acclaim for both its expected [and delivered upon] claim to be the most difficult in the series, but also for its retro art style.
I have already finished the title, and have to admit I am still completely enthralled by the willingness for CAPCOM to take an artistic risk like this. There are other endeavors that have taken this push, but as an artist, I am really impressed that the gaming community has warmly recieved this new version. I believe this is another step toward classic gaming being considered an artform as is classic film.
